Chris "Fantastic" Powell

Our greatest enemies often appear as familiar friends - procrastination, laziness, doubt, fear, excuses - that constantly whisper discouraging messages to keep us from reaching our potential.

Speaker 1:

Life is waiting for you each day and you have to prepare for each challenge along the way towards success. It's not simple, but it can be done. Welcome to my Common Sense Motivation episodes. I'm Chris Fantastic Powell. Your real enemies dress like friends. I've got some best friends. They've been with me for years and here's the truth. They don't want me to win.

Speaker 1:

Every morning, when I open my eyes, they're already awake. They ride with me into the shower. They whisper to me while I'm getting dressed. They sit in the passenger seat as I drive to work. They walk with me through every meeting, every decision, every quiet moment when I'm thinking about doing something big and the wild part they never leave. They eat lunch with me, they sit at the dinner table with me, they lie in bed right next to me and anytime I dare to dream, they show up with the same script why, now, that's too hard, let's do it later. What if it doesn't work? You've tried that before and it didn't go anywhere.

Speaker 1:

Does this sound familiar? Don't think I'm the only one. You've got them too. They've got names and you know them Procrastination, lazy, doubt, fear, excuses and should have.

Speaker 1:

They're friendly, comfortable. They know just what to say to keep you from becoming the person you were born to be. But let me tell you the secret I've learned Momentum is their worst enemy. When I start moving fast enough, when I stop asking for their permission, I can sometimes outrun them just long enough to accomplish something, just long enough to catch a glimpse of the future version of me they're trying to bury. But the moment I slow down, the moment I get tired or second-guess myself, they catch up and just like that I'm trapped again in a cycle of almost maybes and not yets.

Speaker 1:

But here's what I know now. You can't wait for them to go away. They don't. You can't reason with them. They out-talk you every time. But what you can do is act before they notice. Push forward while they're sleeping. Build momentum so strong that even when they wake up, you're already gone Too far ahead for them to reach. Your dreams were never supposed to live in the same space as these false friends. So next time they come around, smile and then run. Run toward your greatness, run toward your calling, run toward the life you keep seeing in your heart but haven't yet held in your hands. And don't stop moving, because the faster you go, the harder it is for them to catch up and the closer you'll get to becoming the person you already know you were meant to be. They might walk with you, but they can't run like you Make it happen. I'm Chris Fantastic Powell. Thank you for listening.
